Code of Conduct
The Bank of Åland's Code of Conduct explains our way of working and how we manage our business and relationships in order to help us act responsibly. The Code of Conduct applies to our relationships with customers and our actions as employers and employees, as well as our relationships with shareholders, investors, suppliers and business partners.
The UN Sustainable Development Goals
In 2021 we put a lot of effort into identifying our impact on the climate and environment. By means of a deeper analysis of our business and a climate calculation of our own operations, customer investment portfolios and the loan and treasury portfolios, for 2022 we have chosen to focus on the following goals, in keeping with UN sustainable development goals number 6, 7, 8, 12, 13, 14 and 15. Based on our current knowledge, we can see that our emissions have a particularly negative impact in terms of climate and environment on these goals.
Climate work
Like many other players in our industry, we are working to increase our understanding of what impact our operations have on the climate and the environment, including water, biodiversity and ecosystems. We are continuously deepening our knowledge and analysis of our climate impact. By calculating our emissions using the Greenhouse Gas Protocol (GHGP) within scopes 1, 2 and 3 both upstream and downstream, we can create a picture of our impact. Upstream means the emissions created by how our own operations are conducted, for example by heating the premises in which we conduct business and through business trips taken by our employees. Downstream means the emissions that occur from the products we produce and sell.
Materiality analysis
The purpose of our materiality analysis is to identify areas for sustainable development in both the short and long term. This analysis helps us to determine what is essential for us to continue focusing on and developing. It includes monitoring of global events, identification of our stakeholders and their interests and identification of our impact from a sustainability perspective. The annual materiality analysis, together with our sustainability strategy, forms the basis for sustainability plans.
Sustainability strategy
Along with our targets and the principles that we have adopted, our sustainability strategy is designed to ensure that we conduct our operations in a sustainable manner.
Responsible investments
Our ambition is to obtain a basic knowledge of the operations of the companies we invest in and, above all, thoroughly examine the sustainability of these business operations. We apply an active asset management approach. All asset management is conducted in a responsible manner. The responsible investment process applies to all funds managed by the Bank of Åland as well as to our broader asset management business.
